If you know me, you know that I believe in giving back. And that I love a challenge. This year, both of those missions were accomplished by training for and running a full marathon. I’d run several half marathons over the past couple of years, and I decided that this year, I’d tackle the full 26.2 miles. If that wasn’t enough, I also happily accepted the challenge of serving Team in Training as their Fundraising Captain for the Summer Marathon team AND rehearsed and performed in a musical during the course of the season. NBD.
Together, my wonderful team and I ran hundreds of training miles – by the beach, along trails, up and down hills and mountains, and around high school tracks – and raised money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Together, we sweated, cried and laughed as we completed our races – the San Diego Rock & Roll Marathon and Half Marathon and the Seattle Rock & Roll Marathon and Half Marathon. And together, most importantly, we raised nearly $91,000 to help end blood cancers, forever.
I’m so proud to have been a part of this team, and honored to be a part of each member’s fundraising success this season. I love helping people tell their stories in the ways only they can – and this time, it was for a great cause. If running a marathon or curing cancer has been something that’s on your bucket list, I’d love to answer any questions you have, and encourage you to join your local TNT chapter. And if it’s not, no worries. Find a cause you love, and do that instead.
