Those of you who know me know that I’m multi-passionate. One of the things I’m passionate about is giving back, in whatever way you can. Whether it’s the gift of your time, a small monetary donation or some product or service you offer, giving back is so important.
I’m grateful I even get to give back – there was a time in my life when I just felt I couldn’t – not enough time, not enough money. Not enough me.
Fast forward to today. Giving back has become part of my weekly practice. Every day, I work – do the auditions, send out the e-mails and follow up on projects. But once a week, at least, I give back. There are two causes that are near and dear to my heart.
Every Friday, I’d like to share with you what I’m doing, or what someone in our community is doing. If there’s a cause you love that you want to share, I’d love to help tell that story too.
This weekend, I’m joining Team in Training for my third season. Team in Training offers coaching for a variety of endurance sports – marathons, triathlons, hiking and cycling events – in exchange for fundraising to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. LLS provides funding for research and support services for those living with blood cancers.
In 2013, I ran 2 half marathons, and raised over $6,000 for LLS.
This year, I ran my first full marathon, and as Fundraising Captain, led our team into raising over $93,000.
In 2015, I’ve created the “2×4 Challenge.” My goal is to run 2 more full marathons, in 4 countries, and raise $2,500 for LLS, and another $2,500 for a second charity (…which I’ll introduce in a future post!). The first Marathon: the LA Marathon in March 2015!
Now, here’s my huge admission: When I started this journey, I freaking hated running. Maybe it’s all those crazy endorphins, but over time, little by little – I built up my endurance and have come to love my training runs. It helps that I’m surrounded by such a wonderful team of Cancer-fighting warriors. I’m excited to begin a new season of training, with old friends from past seasons, and with new friends I’ve yet to meet.
If you’d like to help, here’s how (pick one, or do all three!):
