I decided to join a 21-day Facebook Live challenge. Why?
I’m a Professional Storyteller. My stage is usually the voiceover booth, a corporate boardroom or a stage in a theater. This year, I decided to study on-camera acting technique to help broaden my acting horizons and continue my storytelling education.
I realized that the camera makes me uncomfortable. Self-conscious and nervous, uncomfortable. (Why do I keep blinking?) I’m sure I’m not the first and I won’t be the last.
To get myself over this, I had promised myself a 21-day self-tape challenge. Which proved even more challenging than I thought it would be. I made all kinds of excuses: I don’t have the right equipment, I need a reader to help with the dialogue, I don’t have time to memorize scripts. And I’m nervous. On top of that, there were some personal family issues I needed to attend to. (Don’t you love the laundry list of excuses I managed to come up with?)
Bottom line: I let the challenge slide.
Enter the 21-day Facebook Live Challenge. It seemed like a good way to get me off my ass and back in front of the camera in a low(er) stakes kind of way.
I hope you’ll join me for this adventure. I’m going live on FB every day at (or close to) 10 a.m. Pacific Time. In exchange for allowing me to learn “self-taping” in a live format, I’m sharing what I know with you.
We’ll talk about:
- Setting yourself (and your business) up for success
- Why branding matters
- How to start thinking about your brand
- Balancing your day job with your side hustle/future dream job
- Dealing with setbacks
…and whatever else I come up with over a 21-day period. It’s unscripted. It’s not always pretty. I hope it’s fun and that you leave with some interesting insights.
The first day’s video is here, and I hope you enjoy! You can set up your FB to get notifications every time I go live by hitting “follow” and opting in.
